San Diego Home Inspector Goes North

San Diego Home Inspector Goes North- My wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, so she convinced me to take a mini-break from home inspections by going north to Santa Barbara for a few days. It was actually my first visit to Santa Barbara, and I was impressed with it's scenic beauty and small-town charm. Santa Barbara sits between the Pacific Ocean and a coastal mountain range giving it a near-perfect climate. The temperatures ranged from the mid to upper 60's every day. Plush vegetation abounds, and we found the people to be very friendly. And Santa Barbaran's certainly do love their dogs! Being dog lovers ourselves, we enjoyed meeting a large variety of them every day.

We love to bike, so we loaded our mountain bikes for the trip. We found some great riding trails right along the coastline. My video will give you an idea of what the coastal terrain is like in the region. We also enjoyed riding by the countless ocean-view homes that litter the hillsides on the coast. Santa Barbara real estate values are high, and with good reason! Home buyers are willing to pay a premium to wake up to those panoramic ocean views every morning!

One thing we were a little surprised to see was the high number of homeless people. We were told by a resident that the city council takes a soft stance on the homeless, so they tend to congregate. One day, we were enjoying a relaxing meal at a beach restaurant near the marina and our meal was interrupted by the Harbor Police who had to quell a dispute between a homeless man and woman. The woman had to seek shelter from him in the restaurant's rest room. One can only think that, unless ordinances regarding the homeless are more strictly enforced, the situation may continue to escalate and put a damper on tourism.
